River Classic 2016

In the autumn of 2010 I organised and ran, with the help of Phil Williams, the Shrewsbury River Classic Series of matches. They consisted of four qualifying matches and a final of which was sponsored by eight tackle companies. The event was sold out and everything went well apart from the lack of fish showing in the river. It was planned to take place annually but I decided not to do it again until the river had recovered with fish stocks to its former glory. I didn’t think it was fair to the angler, the event in general or the sponsors who had all supported the competition.
Now after six years it seems the fish are back in numbers and after a fantastic River Fest Qualifier last October, of which was one of the best and fairest matches for a long time, I have decided to do it again. Due to the issue of the river level being high for most of the winter season I have opted to run a three match, mid week festival instead. This will run this year on the 11th, 12th and 13th of October. It will again be on the County Ground and Quarry Sections and be a sixty peg Festival.
The Festival will be in Association with The Shropshire Anglers Federation and Total Angling. I have approached Tackle Companies again to support the event and all the companies I have asked, Matrix, Preston Innovations, Sonu Baits, Map, Garbolino, Shakespeare (Pure Fishing), Sensas, Daiwa , Drennan and Dinsmores, have all fantastically agreed to do so. I would like to thank them now for their support. Without these companies we simply would not have some of the finest tackle available on the market today.
Anglers will be able to book their place for the event, which will be first come first served, from the middle of March. An application form with payment details will be available on the Total Angling web site of which can printed off and completed in full. The form will also be available in the Match Fishing Magazine (April Edition). Full rules and the entry list confirming places will also be on Total Anglings web Site. From the response I have had, 42 telephone calls so far, I am sure it will sell out fast. There will be a reserve list should anyone drop out nearer the time. Tickets are not transferable. I am really looking forward to a great festival.
